Superintendent's Winter Weather Message - January 31, 2022

Triad families,

The district is monitoring the forecast for the upcoming weather event that is scheduled to hit our area mid week. The purpose of this message is to give families advance notice of the district’s plans. The current forecast shows that our area will see rain on Tuesday changing to a wintery mix throughout the night and into Wednesday before changing to snow throughout the day on Thursday.  It appears likely that this storm will create hazardous road conditions which could cause in-person school to be cancelled. We will continue to monitor the weather conditions through the National Weather Service.  The National Weather Service provides periodic updates and webinars to school districts and other government agencies to assist in planning for upcoming school and event closures.

In 2020, the Triad Board of Education passed a resolution giving the district the option to utilize “e-Learning” days instead of emergency (snow) days.  Emergency days must be added to the end of the school calendar in late May and into June.

If the decision is made to cancel school on Wednesday and/or Thursday, these two days will shift to e-Learning days barring major power outages in our area or other unforeseen circumstances.  Teachers will conduct classes on these days and students will log on using their school-provided device.  Daily e-Learning schedules will be made available to all families on Tuesday.

If two e-Learning days take place on Wednesday and Thursday, and it is still necessary to cancel school on Friday, that day would be an emergency (snow) day. This means that there would be no e-Learning on Friday, and a make-up day would be added to the end of the school calendar in May.

When the decision to conduct an e-Learning or an emergency day is made, parents will be contacted via phone, text, and email. In addition, information will be available on the district's website and social media feeds (Facebook, Twitter, & Instagram) as well as all local television stations.
